IWS not opening after renaming project folder

Hello,

I renamed the folder my project was stored in and now IWS does not open/launch. I tried downloading example projects but none of them open either.

If I restart my computer and try again I get a "project not found in folder" popup. I have reverted the name to its previous but the error and popup persists.

I tried a repair and a hard reinstall of the software but nothing changes.

I am running IWS v8.1 Educational.

Thanks

  • I've had similar issues. IWS always opens the last project you were working on. I've never had it not open because of renaming a project folder. However, you will get errors if you do that. Things to try. Don't open the software directly. Make sure your .app file is associated with iws and double click the app file to open the software. Rename the directory back to exactly the same name it was before you changed it. Probably doesn't help much. I've learned if I need to change the directory name where my projects are stored that you need to open another project first. such as the demo project. Then you will never run into that issue.
  • Dear Nathan,

    If you go to the following location.
    xxxxxxx=your own windows login name
    C:\Users\xxxxxxxxx\AppData\Local\InduSoft Web Studio v8.1
    There you will find a "program stttings.ini" file. In this file, you will find the location of the last opened file.
  • Thanks, I looked for that file awhile back and opened the one in the install directory as it has the same identical name and those settings weren't in it so I gave up. I should have looked into it deeper. That's a huge help.
  • Yeah I talked with support earlier today and they suggested changing the Program Settings file as well (or just deleting it and it should revert to opening the PCDemo project). I have reverted the directory and configuration pointers to the demo project but the problem persists and deleting the file does not change anything. I downloaded a non-educational version of IWS and it does not seem to have the same issue, but I can only run in evaluation mode so not a long-term solution.

  • I ended up upgrading to Aveva Edge Educational. The same license transferred over and I no longer have the issue.
