OI Server Manager Not Connecting Since Mar-2025

Hi All,

I've been shown a system where InTouch is connecting to OPC devices via OI Server Manager.  The system was built a few years ago and was working fine until March-2025. Now there are no items in OI Server Manager, and no comms.  Normal function and comms can be restored by setting the date to 2024.  So it's a licence problem?

InTouch is happy about its licence whatever the date.  Where can I see the licence state of OI Server Manager?  Other Ideas?

  • Hi Richard,

There is a indicator that will be displayed when your OI Server has acquired a valid license.

As an example, here the OI Server is started, but no valid license has been acquired yet.

And here it is running using a license

    Notice the small icon?

Also there should be an entry in the log for you to be able to identify when its running using a valid license.

But you mention that you connect to a OPC device / server.

This will be done using OI Gateway, OI Gateway is a component that does not require a license to run.

And you will not see a 'license acquired' icon when its started.

As a disclaimer, OI Gateway is 'free' to be used, as long as it is used together with any AVEVA product, at least that has been the official statement as far as I can remember.

I can not recall OI Gateway requiring a license in the past versions either and same applied to the legacy predecessor OPC Link.

But since you can get your system working by setting you date to 2024 it does indeed sounds interesting, but could it be your OPC Server that is licensed and not the OI gateway?

Also, most AVEVA customer/production licenses are not restricted by a date limitation, (never expires), as might be the case using a Development / Consignment license (witch usually expires 17 Jan).

So to sort out what might be wrong you need to provide some additional information, especially the communication topology, versions used and license type installed on your system.

  • Thank you for all that, we're working on it.  The OPC server is Eurotherm LinOPC.  We've tested that with another OPC tool, we have values no problem.
