InTouch 17.2 ActiveX control showing as "Unknown."

I am using InTouch 17.2 and I have some problems with an ActiveX control showing as "Unknown." I installed the wwGenericSQL.Grid, but it cannot be used in InTouch. What did I do wrong?

  • Hi Nara, it could be the effect of you installing the ActiveX multiple times.

Or If you have one ActiveX control registered multiple times to OS, with the same name but different builds or from different locations. But since the WWGenericSQLGrid installs using an installer this might not apply.
But if you have manually registered the ocx multiple times it has to be addressed.

Remove the wwGenericSQLGrid ActiveX controls from your list of Installed ActiveX controls in Window Maker.

Find ocx.ini file in C:\ProgramData\Wonderware\InTouch (or the InTouch install directory for older versions),

Open it and delete all Item000X={........} ,wwGenericSQLGrid.Grid

If you remove the entire ocx.ini file or any other lines in the file referring to other ActiveX controls, those has to be reinstalled in InTouch as well.

Also if you have clsid's with just 0000, remove these, it indicates that it does not know the clsid for the installed ActiveX and it has to be installed properly before continuing. Or leftovers from an upgrade.

    Save the file.

Restart WindowMaker and install the wwGenericSQLGrid ActiveX control.

There are some additional steps to troubleshoot if this does not help you, looking for the clsid to ensure proper install in your OS using the registry.

The ActiveX is quite old and will eventually be deprecated, so you might want to explore some alternatives if you have an application using Industrial Graphics.
