Convert a Citect 2018 to Citect 2016

One of our new Developers built a project in Citect Version 8.1 and now we want down grade it to version 8.0. After backup/restore the project compiles and runs, however the graphic pages cannot be display or edited.

  • Hi Mark!
I also had such a problem, but I could not overcome the problems with graphics. I asked for help in support, where they told me that it was not possible and could not help with this issue in the community (Douwngrade project Citect Scada 2018 to Citect Scada 2016), therefore I sympathize. Only to remake the project on the old version is the only solution for me.
  • Hi Mark,

No it is not possible to downgrade. In 2018, we made very key changes to the graphics file format. We haven't changed this format for a very long time, which is why the community may have got away with downgrades before. In some of older versions of Citect we even changed the structure of some of the tables which would introduce errors if tried compiling on an older version.

I would never, ever recommend attempting to downgrade Citect versions this can result in a number of issues for you (and no doubt our support team) when you eventually upgrade in the future. Downgrades are not part of our test plans. Always keep a back up of your project and its data before upgrading, so you can rollback if necessary.

Can I ask why you need to convert a 2018 to 2016?

    Cheers,
    bradley
  • Hi Bradley,

A new tech we hired installed 2018 and created a new project that we wanted to test out in the field, where we have 2016 running. It is not a big issue, we will simply have to upgrade to 2018 at this plant location before we can test out his project.
