Upgrade CITECT v5.42 to last version available

Dear All,

I have not experience in CITECT SCADA, I have a project to replace an old computer (10 years old), which it is installed:

- CITECT V5.42 and a Siemens PLC WinAC CPU 412-2 PCI V4.0.

I have experience in Siemens PLCs, I could replace this PLC HW by a Software Controller CPU 1507S.

I do not if the new version of CITECT has the Communication Controller for this type of Siemens Controller.

Thank you so much for your help and support.

Hugo Garcia

  • Hi Hugo,
It looks like the Software Controller CPU 1507S is based on the S7-1500 PLC from Siemens. We have a Citect driver available for this model, which is the S7TCP.
Check it out on the Connectivity Hub here:

    Kind regards

  • Dear Oliver,

Do you know if this S7 Driver works with a S7-1500 Virtual PLC (PLC SW installed in Windows) that communicate with CITECT "internally" ?

Thank you so much for your help and support.

  • Hi Hugo,

The S7TCP has only been tested with a Physical S7-1500 device.
For e.g. S7 PLCSIM Advanced V2.0 it is known that the driver is not working.
  • Ok.
Thank you so much for your help and support

  • Dear Gents,

One question additional about the upgrade , we have CITECT V5.2 and our customer requires to upgrade to last version ..... this version is CITECT 2018?

I have a direct upgrade procedure from V5.2 to CITECT 2018?

    Thank you for your help

    Hugo
  • Hi Hugo,
Apologies for giving you the wrong information before about the S7-1500 Software Controller. Erik is correct that the driver doesn't currently support this special device. Hopefully with enough people requesting this functionality, it can be added to the S7TCP driver.
With regards to upgrade, the latest version of Citect SCADA is 2018 (v8.10). There is also Update patches available from the Knowledge & Support Center > Product Hub. The latest one released is the May update. Updates are updated each month.
We also have another version, 2018 R2 in development now. The BETA was launched several weeks ago so you could also look at evaluating that version, if it meets your requirements. The biggest feature with 2018 R2 is secure encrypted communications and graphics browsing from within Citect Studio. It should be released before the end of June.
Now for the upgrade procedure, there was a very detailed upgrade document that the Citect Support team put together. You could reach out to Citect Support to get a copy. The other place to look is within the installation media, a PDF "Installation Guide.pdf". This details the type of upgrade (online vs offline) and the migration path. In your case, I'd recommend upgrading to V7.20 first. Then once up and running in V7.20, upgrade to V8.10 (2018).
    Kind regards

  • Dear Oliver,
Which PC (Technical characteristics) I can use to upgrade to V8.10?

Who can give a quotation of the SW and HW necessary to upgrade it?

Thank you so much for your support
    Hugo
  • Hi Hugo,
The Software and Hardware Requirements are clearly documented in the "Installation Guide.pdf" contained on the install media for V8.10. You will need to decide how large a system you have and chose the hardware appropriate for your scenario and requirements. I think any modern hardware you buy today, will be adequate for medium or large systems.
The hardware you require would need to be sourced via 3rd party hardware supplier (e.g. IBM or HP). I would recommend reaching out to your local AVEVA sales representative for software pricing on Citect SCADA.
    Kind regards
    Olivier
