Hi Chris ,
The intention is to release the first Update for 2018 R2 next month (November).
We will keep you updated if that plan changes, but it looks like things are on track.
Are there any specific fixes you are waiting on?
Kind regards
Olivier
I notice the IDE is buggy and hangs up when switching active projects a lot. The only real issue is that and the new library view in the IDE goes blank, the tree on the left goes blank so you can select anything. Seems to occur after a I pack libraries and updated pages, but it's not consistent.
I also have issue with the equipment, updated is slow ( i have a lot of equipment) and doesn't seem to complete correctly. Especially when renaming an item. I have had to manually delete my variable, trend and alarm tags then perform another update. But if I recall, I have had these issues in previous versions.
Is Citect going to release an updated Equipment editor? What about Composite Genie editor/creator wizard or something? We would love to create are own, but too involved at the moment.
What is the old saying? "Under-promise, over-deliver" - we just posted the Update 1 for 2018 R2 to the AVEVA website:
https://softwaresupportsp.aveva.com/#/producthub/details?id=52935
It is available for download now.
The Equipment performance is a known issue (and in previous versions!) and something we hope to address in the future. I also use the work around of clearing Variable, Trend and Alarm DBs before doing a full Equipment update. It speeds things up a lot!
To your question about Composite Genie Editor/Creator, again it is on the backlog, and hopefully we can deliver something on this soon. I acknowledge that it is quite difficult to create your own from scratch.
I can't see any bug fixes to the IDE or hands, so it could be something specific in your environment. I'd recommend reaching out to Citect Support to try and troubleshoot it further.
From 2018 onwards, when the IDE starts up it is "graphing" the relationships of your graphics.... all of them... for every project listed in your projects view. If your computer is under stress that would take longer than expected, and if you triggered another operation such accessing the browse view perhaps it gets overloaded.
What I suggest is when you startup Citect Studio, switch to Graphics Builder and keep an eye on its status bar. If it is "updating frequently" then that means the gaphing process is still going. I would guess 'packing' could also trigger this as it would be updating the graph. But don't stop packing, you need to do that frequently as you are using tons of comp genies. Try accessing the library view during and after that to see if that is a cause.
Also are all your projects hosted on your local PC? Or do you have them hosted on a network share?
No Comp Genie editor on horizon.
Equipment Editor is very high on our list of todo's, and likewise its lack of performance.
