How to group IO-devices for ini-parameter?

Hi!

I have a bunch of new modnet-devices that require the citect.ini parameter [MODNET] LongDataType to be set, this of course won´t work with my existing MODNET devices why I have to assign the parameter uniquely to each new device.
However, I already have six entries and will end up with like 25.. A mess.

In the driver help you can read about grouping IO-devices and assigning the parameter to a group.
So I made a group in GROUPS.DBF testing both the IO-device name as well as the IO-device port name, and in citect.ini tried assigning it to the group. But it didn´t work of course.

I think that I either assign it wrong, or can´t assign it in GROUPS.DBF?

Anyone know the right way to do it?

  • It is not very clear from the documentation. You don't use groups.dbf. Check out technote TN5716. It tells how to use parameter groups for the Modbus driver, which works the same way for Modnet. The only difference is that the INI parameter section that you use would be [MODNET.groupname] instead of [MODBUS.groupname] (replace 'groupname' with your group name).
