Disk I/O Devices *.dsk and *.dat Type - what is the difference if at all other than format

i have 2 Disk I/O Devices in my project created in earlier version V3.

they differ on the extension type as follows.

Disk_PLC.DSK

Disk_PLC2.DAT

what is the performance or main difference if at all.
