Citect SCADA 7.2 OPC Server on Windows 7 Pro

Hi Everyone,

Does anyone have notes on how to configure the OPC Server setting in Citect 7.2 running on a Windows 7 Pro pc ?

We understand that Citect 7.2 is old and that Win 7 Pro is also old, but that is what site currently has.

There was a note in another forum that mentioned that there was a Schneider knowledge base article on how to configure Citect SCADA 7.2 OPC Server in Windows 7 Pro.

So I thought to reach out to see if anyone has this or notes of their own.

Regards,

  • Hi  ,

The local help on the machine should have the information required to configure the OPC Server.

But it is also still available on GCS website here:

    https://gcsresource.aveva.com/plantscada/WebHelp/citect720/default.htm#OPC_DA_Server_configuration.htm

    Here is the core info:

    Configuring an OPC DA Server

A CitectSCADA OPC DA Server is configured via the OPC DA Server Properties dialog in Project Editor, which is accessible via the Servers menu.

You can configure as many OPC DA servers as required in a project, however you can only have one per computer.

Note: To successfully operate an OPC DA Server, you will need to correctly configure its DCOM settings based on your client requirements. See the topic OPC DA Server DCOM settings.

The OPC DA Server properties are pretty straight forward.

DCOM can become a bit complex, is your OPC Client local on the same machine or remote? If local, it should just work without needing to modify DCOM settings.

  • Thanks for that Oliver,

Yes, to make things easy we have Matrikon OPC Explorer running on the Primary I/O Server, so everything should just connect and work.  When ever we conect using Matrikon OPC Explorer then life is fine, however, we can see the Citect SCADA OPC Server using Matrikon's OPC Explorer and we can connect to the OPC Server but the Status is "Failed"  rather than "Running".

We have been through the on-line help and userguide but it only covers Windows Vista, XP, Server 2000 and Server 2003.  We are using Windows 7 Pro.

We've configured the OPC Server settings as per the help file and user guide and we used the information for Windows Server 2003 because we thought that Windows 7 Pro may have been similar.

Since the OPC Server status shows "Failed" when we connect with Matrikon OPC Explorer, we thought that there is something specific about Windows 7 Pro.

There must be one or two settings that we are missing.

We'll read through the link that you sent through carefully to see if there are any additional steps compared to what we have in the Citect SCADA user guide.

    Thanks for your help.
