"The Settings File Could Not Be saved", "The User must have access to the server password"...

Hey Guys,

Brand new installation of Citect 2018r2. Couple of hours old. Imported an existing project. Everything compiles without issue.

I run the Runtime and this is the result:

Ok, we aren't on a domain, nor did I set a password in Configuratior.

When I try to set a password, this is what I get

I have run Configurator as administrator. I am the administrator account.

If i run the setup wizard, this is the result

I found a tech note, with these exact symptoms putting fault on a hard disk becoming full, or, a threshold being triggered for the disk being full and adjusting it.

I have 100gb of 120gb free on my hard disk. Windows and Citect are the only pieces of software in this environment.

So my current development environment is basically useless right now.

Any ideas guys?

Thanks.

  • Hi  ,

With the December 14 2021 Update for Citect SCADA 8.20, there was a security fix which requires updating PCS from version 4.6.1 to 4.6.2. Without the PCS update, you will likely experience the issues you have reported, as Citect can no longer access the stored secret database.

See note from GCS website where the Update was published:

"This update contains an important security update for Citect SCADA 2018 R2. In addition to applying the normal monthly update, you will need to download, unzip and install the "PCS Framework 4.6.2 (x64).exe". If you have a 32-bit operating system, then you will need to download, unzip and install the "PCS Framework 4.6.2 (x86).exe" instead. Failure to do this may mean that your system may not operate correctly.

Microsoft .NET Framework 4.8 is a pre-requisite for PCS v4.6.2. All nodes in the system will require the Microsoft .NET Framework to be updated to this version. This is available from the Microsoft web site."

Let us know if you experience this issue after ugrading PCS to v4.6.2. If you still experience issues, it would be advised to contact AVEVA support.
