Cross version communications

I have a version 8.1 system trying to communicate as a client  to a version 7.1 server.

I/O is coming through just fine, but the trends and alarms are not.

Can ping the legacy ports, not the newer version ones (example - on the trend server, I can ping 2077, but not 2080)

However, if I change the port number on the project to the legacy port, it will not compile, since they are reserved port numbers.

Changing the "Earliest Legacy Version" in the Citect.ini file doesn't change things.

Any suggestions?

  • Hi  ,

Apologies for the delayed reply on this.

Inter-version comms is not supported. It really only works for upgrade scenario, but even so, it is limited through use of parameter ([LAN]EarliestLegacyVersion) and only meant for short periods of time to allow you to complete an upgrade. It isn't something that should be put into production for long periods of time.

The only solution I could see would be enable OPC DA Server on the legacy system, then replicate the alarms, trends, etc. on the new system.

    Kind regards

    Olivier
