Citect/Plant Scada Anywhere vs Web Client

Dear All,

my client is requesting us to provide a HTML5 web interface, i am wonder what is the different between Plant Scada Anywhere and the existing Web Client.
Appreciate if someone can guide me:

1) Is Plant SCADA anywhere a different software that need to install on top of Plant SCADA?
2) I will have some activeX in my graphic like date time picker and data grid, if i am using Plant SCADA anywhere, since is HTML5 mean the activex still working? or user still need to configure browser security and download activex component? (Which we try to avoid that)
3) Is the current web client still using the activex method to run on client pc browser?

Thank you

    1. Yes. Basically, Plant SCADA Anywhere is Remote Desktop in Web (HTML5). You need to install it on a remote desktop server (ie, terminal server) where the SCADA runtime client is installed, and you also need to purchase RDS licenses from Microsoft.
    2. Your ActiveX controls in the project will work as they are now. The anywhere software use "Virtual RDS" technology to display your graphics pages in HTML5.
    3. Yes, the current web client still uses the legacy ActiveX container to host SCADA project runtime on IE (already end of life).
  • Dear Jacky,

    Thanks for the info.
From your explanation, the Plant SCADA Anywhere is work like a remote desktop, in this case if multiple user login at the same time, they are viewing the same screen? or Plant SCADA will create different screen for concurrent user when they login?

  • Yes. Each login user has his/her own RDS session running independently. In this RDS session, Anywhere will automatically launch a Plant SCADA client with /x (remote client and not managed by Runtime Manager).  Each RDS session requires a RDS license. Of course, a SCADA client license is required too.

  • Thanks, this solved my problem.
For the license you mentioned, if i need 5 concurrent user to logon at the same time,
I will need 5 plant scada client license + 5 MS RDS license.
Correct me if my understanding is wrong.

  • Yes, that is correct. Be sure to chose a Control Client or View Only client license based on your needs. Using Plant SCADA 2023, it is also possible to make use of AVEVA Enterprise Licensing, which enables you to reserve and checkout license to a specific node.
