Software licence problem- Aveva Enterprise Licence Manager

Aveva Plant SCADA 8.4(2023) Update 08

Problem with the software licenses.

Client won't start, There is error "Software protection error", No licensed control client available or view available on other computer.

In Kernel Plant SCADA license should be visible the number of licenses added by Aveva Enterprise Licence Manager ?

Computers are in the same local network and working group, they have ping. The first is installed Windows Server 2022 Standard, and Windows 10/11 for control/view clients.

  • Hi,

You should also post pictures of the Client Kernel as well.

Have you properly configured the Topology for your project? The client needs to connect to the server. Also several ports need to be opened: 2080,2082,2084,2085 etc (see help Topology > Server Processes) and 55555. You can use something like telnet to ensure that the ports are opened. For 55555 use the Configurator test.

For licensing logs, there is a separate logger. Open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\ArchestrA. Open the aaLogViewer.exe. Here you should see some logs. In addition you can turn some log flags on. Go to Action > Log Flags. Under Global you can check the following: AELicensing AELicAcquire AELicTiming Info-Licensing Licensing LicensingDetailed LicensingConnection LicensingBackend

You can export by going to Action > Export to file.

You may also use Device Reservations in AVEVA Enterprise License Manager, to reserve the licenses for the nodes that need them.

This reminds me of article 000033079 but that shouldn't affect 2023. Just for reference it says:  In the case of installing a specialty driver, both - the driver and its license must be installed on the server machine too. When this architecture is followed, the IO server will be able to fulfill the license request sent by the specialty driver and supply the driver license that has been installed on the server machine. When a specialty driver like PSDIRECT driver sends a license request, the request is sent to the IO server (front-end), and not the license server (back-end). Since the driver license has been installed on a machine separate from the IO server machine, the license request sent by the driver goes unfulfilled, resulting in the start of demo mode.

  • Hi,

Thanks for the answer. Logger really help.

On client side i have to change manually in Configurator: Primary Server Name, then client see the licences from AEL.

Then Kernel on client start show V/O

or after change to control also Control

  • Please also provide the aaLogViewer.exe logs as mentioned in my initial reply.

  • Hi Sebastian,

I believe is wise to continue over a support case.

Make sure to contact your local support to escalate your problem.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

Support in Poland for Citect/Plant SCADA no exist Slight smile

  • I am sorry  this is not true. We have Astor as distributor and they perform L1 support, in case you can escalate to AVEVA support. Please keep me informed if you will not get supported.

  • I did have a look at the logs btw, as you were kind enough to upload them.
It seems to me that the client is calling the license server for the licenses, but then you get an system trace for a communication object in faulted state.

As Antonio mentioned, you should approach your local distributor as they can help you troubleshoot the issue.

  • Ok I know there is Astor. My experience is great with Citect, but as You can see, I am still surprised Slight smile
