DWG files - how to speed up and simplify the graphical page development process

Hello Citect project developers,
I would like to ask you about your vision - How do you use OR would like to use AutoCAD DWG (also SVG) files in Citect Page development process?
When we create the graphic part of the project we need to draw and animate  objects, views, etc.
Many build-projects have already the draw/schemes in dwg format (for example building floors ) which we can use during page design process.

But a strange situation persists with the import of these types of files in the citect native environment- more precisely we can use graphical file only as a background. My opinion this is certainly not a solution.

Are you interested in such an opportunity - import from the DWG/SVG an editable image in the native objects of the Citect ?

Kind regards,

Ruslan

  • Hi Ruslan,

In the past I have tried importing DWG/SVG/DXF as well, but was also very dissappointed about the results: I could not control scaling and colors and I expected to have the results as individual objects instead of a bitmap, just like you experienced.

In my opinion this would be a very interesting feature to have.
  • Hi Patrick,
    try searching on youtube "Draw2Citect"
For graphical objects with which the Citect is limited, I think this is enough, the main thing that we can see is that objects can be edited - these are not bitmaps.
for example if we compare how many man-hours it takes to create one such Page in Citect as shown in the video, https://youtu.be/2eaymdpytf4
then I think it should be a very interesting and (may be) cheap solution, sure it's faster

  • Sounds a bit like a sales pitch to me. I don't know if this forum is the right platform for these kind of advertisements.
  • the question is more related to the attitude towards using the visualization on the Page. Inside our team, we have a discussion on this issue. There are at least two positions: What should the graphics look like? looks like a real Object with great accuracy or provide information. Of course, it all depends on the Object, but therefore, the question regarding the use of drawings and how to speed up the process of use.
Could you please share your opinion about
What is your attitude like shown visualization?
When reasonable to use a drawings on the pages ?
  • The world is moving away from detailed visual representations towards ones which give more contextual information, but is often in a more abstract and non distracting setting, for example Citect's new "ASM" functionality would not normally be deployed against a detailed, highly accurate drawing of the equipment. It is frequently distracting for the operator. There may be a few occasions when it is useful to give the operator topological cues as to where readings are coming from, perhaps in machine control etc, but for plant control it would be very rare.
