ABCLX and ControlLogix V34 Firmware

Hey Guys. 

Has anyone successfully gotten the latest ABCLX driver inside of PlantSCADA to talk to an L8x series Processor running the V34 firmware?

Customer is demanding it. We've tested a project while talking to V33 firmware and everything is fine. Once we update, comms cease to exist. 

My guess is Rockwell changed something and the ABCLX driver needs updated

Any ideas?

  • I would recommend looking at the Rockwell FactoryTalk Linx Gateway OPC Server software (connected via OPCLX driver).
    We have been using it for a number of years now and have found it very reliable and high performance.
    ABCLX will never be able to compete with it due to the proprietary nature of the optimised communications and will always need to play catch up if anything changes in a newer Rockwell Logix release.

    Sure - you have to pay for it and it is not cheap - but it will pay itself back easily.

    Hey Mike, 

    In our experience we've found it rather slow compared to the ABCLX driver. Maybe we were doing something wrong. So far the customer has been OK with going back to V33.

    That is interesting.  We did extensive testing of the ABCLX vs FTLGW on V30 with SCADA 2016 (and now on V32 plus 2018R2).  That testing showed a very significant difference in the rate of tag collection between the two, with FTLGW having a much greater ultimate rate.  We are using some significantly complex UDT structures for our HMI tags - so I wonder if that was a significant factor?
    We also had lots of problems with communications to older firmware Logix processors that was resolved with a switch to FTLGW after months of trying to troubleshoot and rectify the ABCLX driver.

    I think we started on V5 of FTLGW and now running the V6 (6.20?)
