OMI Alternative Login (Windows native options) for next release ?

Hi Team,

we discussed about several time but we really need to get an alternative way to log in OMI by using Windows security as smartcard, face recognation, pincode...

I'm not asking a login by script but a way to fasten the connection for operators who are on the shopflor and sometime are using touchscreens.

More and more System Platform are using Active Directory user authetication and it frequently brings password complexy and pain to operators.

I aware of switching Windows session but it is not an efficient option as you loose the context and it takes time to switch.

I can easily share customer list that are asking us for this kind of limitation.

Thanks

  • Hi, The solution you are looking for is called ThinManager , most of our customers use it and does exactly what you have explained. It shows the SCADA in context to the user . Works with OMI, Intouch and any AVEVA Operations portfolio

  • Thinmanager is from Rockwell right ? I think Aveva should evolve and give same flexibility in OMI as for intouch. I think about the following :

    - Log on feature - possibility to create our own industrial graphics

    - Secured & verified write - possibility to change the popup with our industrial graphics and force for a comment - or a combo box with specific messages based on objects string table in both products

    - Possibility to use smart card or RFID to log on into OMI

    - full reliable and quick web client in both products

  • Hi Loris, as Ernst stated this is coming in future, but if you need this right now for end users ThinManager from Rockwell works really work for a lot of things, end user device management, RFID / fingerprint authentication, multiple monitor , audit logging etc. For all of this to come to AVEVA may take some time as it will be a centralised approach and may require internet connection which many companies may not be happy about

  • Hi,

Thinmanager can do it but exatly the same way as OMI now => it simply switch the user session wich is not acceptable for an operator that wish to tune a parameter :

    1. it looses the context
    2. it looses time

I'm completly aligned with Loris as secure & write popup have to be configurable or at least refreshed as it destroyes immediatly any efforts you made in creating a nice UI/UX.

For the logon, it is not mandatory to create your own IG but the native login should at least support smart cards and or rfid (biometric recognition is a nice to have) as we're always challenged on and customer doesn't understand why a 2024 software isn't able to do that...
