CitectAnywhere Licensing problems

Hi there,

We have a CitectSCADA installation with two servers and a single client, and have a CitectAnywhere install with 5 user concurrent license here. Problem is we were supplier with licensing for 2 servers, 1 client and 5 CitectAnywhere clients, and have been having issues with "Software Protection Failure. No key found or license available from network." We were then informed that we would need additional licenses for CitectAnywhere to operate as a Citect Client, so purchased an additional two client licenses. These were supplied as additional USB dongles, now this means we need to have three USB dongles operate on a single server....which it doesn't like.

So I believe we now need to convert these dongles to software licenses, but now we have another additional cost that we either try to absorb or embarrassingly try to pass to our client.

Just wondering if others in the Citect community may have a work around on how we can sort out this license issue?

Regards,

Trevor.

  • Hi ,
You definitely want a single USB dongle on that Client machine, which is to act as the Anywhere Server. I would recommend contacting your AVEVA sales rep and requesting that the Client licenses be combined onto a single USB.
It might be a good idea to review the architecture and discuss further with AVEVA support as well.
    Kind regards
    Olivier
  • Thanks for the reply Olivier.

My disappointment is that this was discussed through our sales rep, then we were told that we needed additional client licenses after we were getting these warning. Nothing mentioned that the licenses that were ordered were not going to work as supplied, and now we need to pay additional costs with getting them to be a software license. This is another additional cost that we need to take back to the client.
  • Hi Trevor.

Sorry to hear that you've had these challenges.
Please reach out to me via brad.shaw@aveva.com and we'll get these licenses combined to a single USB or converted to softkey at no cost.
  • Olivier, are you sure you can put a USB key on the client computer? The Citect Anywhere Server Installation and Configuration Guide PDF specifically says 'you need a Vijeo Citect floating license' which would normally be added to the server's USB key or to the server's list of soft licenses, not the client computer.
  • You need the Citect Anywhere license CT305511 on the Anywhere machines (it is sold in bundles of 5). The CT305511 is only available as Soft-license.
All the other licenses can be in a USB dongle (better combined) on the Citect server.
In this scenario, the Anywhere remote client will get the license from the Citect Server.
It is true what you mentioned because as you can read in the Citect Anywhere manual only the FLM has been implemented. No particular mention to the Sentinel driver used by the USB.
PS: combined license USB+softlicense solutions on the same machine create issues.
